AI Transparency

This is a translation for your convenience. In case of any discrepancy, the German version prevails.

Information on the use of artificial intelligence in the service MetrixMundi (metrixmundi.de), within the meaning of Art. 50 of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (EU AI Act; KI-Verordnung) and Art. 13(2)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The short answer

No figure on MetrixMundi comes from a language model.

The values in the Online Radar and in our reports come from official statistics and other published sources; source, data status and licence are stated next to every indicator. No language model estimates, supplements or "smooths" a figure.

Your data are not processed with AI. When you access the pages or pre-register, none of this is sent to an AI provider. Your data are not used to train AI models — neither by us nor by third parties.

Where we do use AI, and this should be stated here:

  • The images on the website — the portrait illustrations and the title image — have been created with an image generator (Higgsfield). The portraits are AI illustrations of historical figures, not photographs; each bears the note „KI-Illustration“ ("AI illustration") in its image description. In addition, a collective notice appears in the footer of every page. They are thus labelled pursuant to Art. 50 of the EU AI Act.
  • Texts and translations are also drafted by us with AI tools. Each of these texts is reviewed by a human before publication; Marcus Alexander Kluge bears editorial responsibility for them.
  • In developing the software, we used AI tools, as is customary for software today. This concerns the building, not the operation.

The distinction is the whole point. "We have never touched AI" would be a convenient claim and would be untrue. What we assure you of is narrower, and reliable for that reason: Between the official source and the figure you see, there is no language model.

The images on this page (portrait illustrations of historical figures, title image) are AI-generated (image generator Higgsfield); the portraits are not photographs and additionally bear the note „KI-Illustration“ ("AI illustration"). Labelling pursuant to Art. 50 of the EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689). More on the use of AI

How the figures are produced

Every figure in the Online Radar is retrieved from a named source or formed from such figures according to a fixed, traceable calculation rule — for example a value per inhabitant or a rank within the comparison group. Source, data status and licence are stated next to every indicator. The figures come from the sources named. Our own calculations, projections and estimates are labelled as such.

Automated decisions

There is no automated individual decision-making within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR, and no profile of you is created. The Online Radar assesses regions on the basis of published figures, not persons.

Classification under the EU AI Act

In the operation of metrixmundi.de, no AI system within the meaning of Art. 3(1) of the Regulation is running: the pages are generated from fixed data and delivered, and the pre-registration works according to fixed rules.

The Regulation concerns us where we publish AI-generated content — in the case of the images. For these, the labelling pursuant to Art. 50 described above applies.
